Cedar Lake Speedway

It was a night of firsts at the Cedar Lake Speedway on Saturday September 12 during the running of the 9th Annual Jerry Richert Memorial. It was the first time the 360 sprint cars were part of this great event that honors the memory of one of the true legends of the sport of sprint car racing. For young Milo, IA driver Rob Kubli, it was his first trip to the Cedar Lake Speedway, his first time racing with the upstart UMSS series, and best of all, his first victory in his very first time racing a 360 sprint car. During an incredible evening of sprint car racing at CLS, it just doesn't get any better than that. Stated a very happy Kubli following the race, "I've raced a couple of seasons in the 305 sprint car division in Southern Iowa, but this was my first race running with a 360 in the car. I had a blast. This is an awesome event." Indeed, the young Iowa driver will remember this night for the rest of his life.

New Richmond, WI— July 12, 2009—One of the marks of a champion and a championship caliber team is the way that they are able to bounce back from adversity and bumps in the road. That is exactly what three-time and defending World of Outlaws champion Donny Schatz and his Tony Stewart Racing team did on Sunday night at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin. After having a rear end fail while leading on Saturday night at Charter Raceway Park, Schatz was on a mission and he battled Jason Meyers in lapped traffic for most of the race to earn his ninth A-Feature win of the season.

Schatz nearly swept the event, beginning the night by setting fast time in qualifying, along with winning the Crane Came Dash to earn the pole position for the 30-lap A-Feature, which he would lead 15 laps of en route to the triumph. The only blemish on the night for the North Dakota native was a second-place finish in the second heat race.

“Anytime you win these is great,” said Schatz. “We have to thank all of these fans for coming out. It was a great night and I'm glad to see all the people. It feels great to get back to Victory Lane.”

New Richmond, WI—July 10, 2009—Cedar Lake Speedway in Wisconsin has been a staple on the World of Outlaws circuit every year since 1983, as the best sprint car drivers in the world have visited the track for 26 consecutive seasons. The series will continue that trend this coming Sunday, July 12 in an event which will be the final one of the season for the series in the Badger State.

Steve Kinser, the 20-time series champion, was victorious in the series debut at the track in 1983 and has five career triumphs at the track to lead all active drivers, along with finishing in the Top-10 in all but one of his 25 starts at Cedar Lake Speedway.

Donny Schatz, the three-time and defending series champion, is the defending winner at Cedar Lake, after winning a duel with Australian Kerry Madsen last season to take the top prize. The North Dakota native competed at the track a number of times early in his career as he was climbing the sprint car ladder and has six career triumphs at the high-banked 3/8-mile.

HE'S RED HOT: JIMMY MARS WINS THREE WDRL RACES IN A ROW Wisconsin driver captures The Masters at Cedar Lake Speedway

New Richmond, Wis. (June 21, 2009) -- Saturday was the seventh race of the 2009 WORLD Dirt Racing League season, the fourth and final night of the Northern Swing and the second and final night here of the 11th annual Masters at Cedar Lake Speedway.

And Menomonie, Wis., driver Jimmy Mars' goal was nabbing his third win in three nights. Mars and his No. 28 car started the evening on the fast race track that featured a night of two-by-two racing by turning in the fast time of 13.438.

Qualifying heat races were captured by Chris Simpson, Scott Gilberts, Chad Simpson and Denny Eckrich.

The Iowa-Illinois Taylor Insulation Pole Dash saw Chad Simpson lead flag to flag with Gilberts and Mars following him to the checkers.

Last year, Scott Winters swept the Friday and Saturday night doubleheader during the IRA portion of the Masters Weekend at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin, and he kept his streak going again in 2009 with a wire-to-wire victory over a 32-car field on Friday night.

Winters started outside polesitter Bill Wirth on the front row and shot into the lead after a red flag was displayed for Steve Meyer’s flip in turn two. Winters seized the top line and set the cruise as he worked his way through lapped traffic through the race’s middle stages. Meanwhile, Wirth had his hands full of Mike Reinke and Scott Neitzel as they used the high line to catch Wirth and the low groove to pass him.

The second race of the inaugural season for the UMSS sprint cars brought the group to the Cedar Lake Speedway for the 7th Annual Billy Anderson Memorial on Saturday night April 25. A cool spring evening did not put a damper on the racing action at the 3/8 mile high-banked western Wisconsin speedplant. When the checkered flag waved over the 20 car field, Winnipeg driver Lou Kennedy Jr had become the seventh different winner of this prestigious early season event held in memory of a fallen sprint car comrade. Kennedy earned $1,000 for his victory.

Taking top honors in the first round of qualifying races, Ultimate Sprint Race wins went to Leigh Thomas, Brad Barickman and Jody Roseboom. The second round of qualifiers called the Ultimate Challenge Races saw John Nelson and Jerry Richert Jr earn victories. John Nelson was the high-point driver following this round, and he drew the zero pill so the feature would line straight up based on points from the qualifiers.

NEW RICHMOND, Wis. -- I am excited to announce the second annual F.A.N.S. (FANS SUPPORTING RACERS) Fund for the 2009 USA Nationals! For those of you unfamiliar with the F.A.N.S. Fund, we were able to take donations sent in 2008 from fans all over the country (cash, check, and Pay Pal) and provided those funds to Bill Frye to make the long haul and offset his expenses to come to the USA Nationals. Last year we (the fans) were able to raise over $2,800.00 to provide to Bill. While Bill did not make the feature event due to motor trouble, Will Vaught who came with Bill, made a stunning drive to finish in 5th place in the back-up #66 in his first ever trip to Cedar Lake Speedway. Again, we want to THANK all the fans from around the country that made this happen!

In the sprit of starting off the 2009 USA Nationals F.A.N.S. Fund, I pulled a quote from one of the Internet posts from last year's event that I believes captures the essence of the F.A.N.S. Fund:

Cedar Lake Speedway is proud to announce that 2009 brings the return of Winged Outlaw Modifieds to the legendary track. Plans are in place to showcase this unique class four times throughout the upcoming season. Originally debuted in 1984 these cars were the most exciting class at the Cedar Lake Speedway at the time. Winged Outlaw Modifieds were unique to Cedar Lake and sported full sized sprint car wings above the roof and nose wings mounted to the front bumper. During their tenure at the track they boasted high car counts, ultra competitive racing and lap times faster than the late models of their era. 1991 was the last year of the class as they were replaced by the current non-winged modified class at the track the following year.

Cedar Lake Speedway hopes to recreate the same excitement this class brought to the track during the late 80’s. Several drivers have shown interest in fielding a car and the track is actively pursuing more drivers to participate. Drivers will utilize the current Cedar Lake Speedway modified rules and can use any standard sprint car wing along with nose wing. Hydraulic cockpit wing adjusters are not allowed.

The ownership group of Cedar Lake Speedway (CLS) and several drivers, car owners & fans met near the track on Saturday, December 12 to discuss proposed new rules and how to implement them. CLS plans to implement rules that many drivers have asked for in recent history and which will help diversify the classes of cars raced weekly at the track. Deciding on how to implement these rules without alienating current loyal CLS drivers and putting them at a disadvantage is paramount moving forward. It was obvious to the many in attendance that many of the proposed rules will help save money over time, give the drivers the options they have been looking for, and give every opportunity for regional drivers to race weekly at CLS. In this economic downturn, the track must look for new ways to save their racers money and give as many cars the opportunity to race at the track.

Cedar Lake Speedway was founded in 1957 by Elmer Cook and his oldest son, Bob. A field of 12 cars and 85 spectators were on hand for the opening show on a flat clay oval. Over the years, the Cook family continued to expand and improve the raceway and the grounds. In 2001, five new partners came on board: Ron Bernhagen, Brad Both, and three brothers – Bob, Chuck, and Steve Kaufman.

Today, Cedar Lake’s state-of-the-art 3/8-mile high-banked clay oval has developed into one of the nation's leading short track facilities. The weekly Saturday night racing program features NASCAR Super Late Models, Modifieds, Super Stocks and Midwest Modifieds taking to the track. The show features some of the finest dirt track drivers in the Upper Midwest, and fans witness fields of over 150 entries compete.
