Late Model stars to race in Minnesota and Wisconsin July 28-30

Gilman City, Mo. (July 22, 2009) -- The Midwest-based WORLD Dirt Racing League, a Late Model touring series, is once again headed to the north country.

In late July, the series' stars and cars are going to Minnesota and Wisconsin for their second Northern Swing of the 2009 racing season.

WDRL will be appearing at North Central Speedway in Brainerd, Minn., on Tuesday, July 28, and will top off the night's events with a 40-lap feature that pays $5,000 to win. Series drivers will see if they can top the race they had at North Central in June, where the feature had spectators standing the last five laps and was won by a .020-second margin.

Then, on the next night, Wednesday, July 29, the WORLD Dirt Racing League will again visit Superior Speedway in Superior, Wis., for a 35-lap WDRL feature with a $3,500 first prize. Superior Speedway always creates an exciting atmosphere with competitive races.

Cedar Lake Speedway was founded in 1957 by Elmer Cook and his oldest son, Bob. A field of 12 cars and 85 spectators were on hand for the opening show on a flat clay oval. Over the years, the Cook family continued to expand and improve the raceway and the grounds. In 2001, five new partners came on board: Ron Bernhagen, Brad Both, and three brothers – Bob, Chuck, and Steve Kaufman.

Today, Cedar Lake’s state-of-the-art 3/8-mile high-banked clay oval has developed into one of the nation's leading short track facilities. The weekly Saturday night racing program features NASCAR Super Late Models, Modifieds, Super Stocks and Midwest Modifieds taking to the track. The show features some of the finest dirt track drivers in the Upper Midwest, and fans witness fields of over 150 entries compete.
